Christian Encouragement and Practical Tips for Ordinary Women

Charity Spotlight: Choices

Choices surround us every day. It is one of the greatest gifts and, at times, a curse.

You can make good choices or bad choices. You are in charge of you.

When I was a teenager, and I wanted to make a questionable choice, my father would often tell me, “You do what you think is right.”

I had a deep conscience, so this usually curtailed me from doing anything too stupid. (I don’t recommend this method for all teenagers, as it didn’t work quite so well for others in my family).

The Journey of Motherhood:

I do not know what your motherhood journey has looked like. It looks different for everybody. You may have one kid or you may have a truckload of kids. Perhaps you have suffered a miscarriage or loss of an infant or child. Maybe your parenthood journey is one of adoption, either giving up a child or adopting a child yourself.

Maybe your story is like this woman’s:

After years of infertility, she was able to conceive twins only to have them both pass away hours after their arrival. A few years down the road, they were able to adopt a child, and then soon after welcoming a little baby into their home, they gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

Or maybe your story is the like the following woman:

After long ongoing attempts at pregnancy, she and her husband decided to open their home to foster. They had the honor of caring for two young girls, who after several years were finally able to adopt these girls into their forever home. In the same month, the girls’ adoption became official, the woman, found out she was pregnant with a third baby girl.

Or maybe your story is like my own personal story:

After several years of waiting in patience and being content where I was, met a man I wanted to marry. Fast forward a few years down the road, I was able to conceive two healthy children, but my husband and I were both in our 30s.

Finally, consider the following story:

A woman who conceived rather easily to three kids. However, she never quite knew when she was pregnant as her cycle was never really regular. With one of her pregnancies, she didn’t know she was pregnant until her second trimester.

The story does not matter. Whatever your story is, it has made you who you are. God works with you right where you are. He surprises and works in us in so many ways.

A place to go when you need help:

But, what do you do when faced with the choice of an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy?

Choices is a non profit organization in Chattanooga, TN that provides education and support for women (and men) who are faced with an unplanned pregnancy. If you have suffered a miscarriage, you can also find support here.

Choices is a place where you can go for restoration and healing, education, and truth. A representative recently came to my MOPS (Mother’s of Preschooler’s) group to talk about the organization. What most impressed me was the love and non-judgmental support provided.

According to the representative, all families will be accepted and given help, no matter the choices facing you in the present or the choices you have made in the past.

And that is just what Jesus did as well.

He met people where they were in their current life, not where society thought they should be:

  • The women caught in adultery (John 8:11)
  • The fishermen who became apostles (Matthew 4:19)
  • Zacchaeus (Luke 19)

The list goes on and on.

Consistent in all those stories is the love and reassurance and healing Jesus offered. He did not condone nor condemn their choices. He spoke to them in love and truth because that is really the only way you can truly speak the truth.

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or clanging cymbal.

1 Corinthians 13:1

No Greater Love:

So if you are facing the tough life circumstance of an unplanned pregnancy or a miscarriage and you find yourself not knowing who to turn to or where to go, I plead with you to find a company like Choices. My prayer is for you to find truth, love, and healing.

There is no greater love than God’s love. It doesn’t matter where you have been or what choices you have made. God will find you when you will seek him with all your heart.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. “
